A Day of Learning - 4 hrs. on

Fire Alarms, CO and Pathway Survivability

This is a series of 4 one hour seminars:

Seminar 1 - NFPA 72 National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code updates to the 2019 edition. This course will cover the major changes to the 2019 edition of the document. 

Seminar 2 - Fire alarm testing, what is required and how are they properly performed.  This course will cover general requirements for testing and maintenance of fire and life safety systems as well as review common misconceptions of proper testing and adherence.

Seminar 3 - Carbon Monoxide detection, what is required, how they are tested and designed.  This course will review the effects of carbon monoxide on the human body and how detection can be used to alert occupants of CO poisoning.

Seminar 4 - Survivability and how and why they are used in life safety systems.  This course will review the history of pathway survivability, how the codes have changes over the editions and what is required today for these systems.

These classed have been approved for four (4.0) total hours of CEUs for Fire Code Administrator, and Fire Safety Inspector I, II and III, and Fire Instructor I, II, and III.  One hour and one CEU for each session.

Instructor:   Dr. Rodger Reiswig, Johnson Controls, Goode, VA

Rodger Reiswig is a Fellow with Johnson Controls and serves as VP, Industry Relations. With over 37 years in the fire protection industry including training, product support, application design, sales, and management experience. Rodger currently serves on over 28 NFPA Technical Committees as well as serves on NFPA’s Standards Council. Rodger serves as a board member for the Center for Campus Fire Safety. He is the Immediate Past Chair of NEMA’s Life Safety Signaling Section and serves as Vice-Chair on NEMA’s Plenary Codes and Standards Committee. Rodger serves as Chair of the Electronic Security Association’s Codes and Standards Committee. Rodger Co-Chairs the USA delegation for ISO TC21 for Fire Alarm Systems and IEC TC 79 Security Systems and Components Committees. Rodger has authored numerous articles for the industry and has a podcast series on life safety and technology. Rodger holds NICET level IV Fire Alarm Systems Certification, NICET level II Inspection and Testing of Fire Alarm Systems and NICET level I Special Hazards Layout Certification. Rodger holds certifications from Two Rivers Technologies as a Master in Telecommunications and from Eastern Technical holds a certification in Electronics Technology and Microprocessor Design. Additionally, Rodger holds both a Master’s and Doctorate Degree in Theology from Evangelical Theological Seminary.
