and Medically At-Risk Road Users

Since 2009, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Safe Mobility for Life Program, housed in the State Traffic Engineering and Operations Office, has been partnering with the Pepper Institute on Aging and Public Policy at FSU to facilitate a statewide coalition to address the specific needs of Florida’s aging road users.
Working together with more than 30 member organizations, the Safe Mobility for Life Coalition’s mission is to implement a strategic action plan to eliminate fatalities and reduce serious injuries while increasing the safety, access, and mobility for Florida’s aging road users.

Gail Holley manages the Florida Department of Transportation’s Safe Mobility for Life Program and Coalition and leads with a proactive, data-driven, collaborative approach to eliminate fatalities and reduce serious injuries for Florida’s aging road users. Gail guides the Coalition in the implementation of a statewide strategic action plan. The materials and resources developed under this plan help people of all ages and abilities maintain mobility independence, beyond driving.
Grady Carrick, Florida Highway Patrol(Ret.)
GRADY CARRICK IS A RETIRED FLORIDA HIGHWAY PATROL CHIEF, WHO DISTINGUISHED HIMSELF AS A CHAMPION FOR TRAFFIC OPERATIONS AND SAFETY DURING HIS 30 YEARS WITH THE AGENCY. SINCE HIS RETIREMENT IN 2012, DR. CARRICK HAS WORKED WITH LOCAL, STATE, AND FEDERAL AGENCIES TO ADVANCE A SAFE AND EFFICIENT TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM IN A CONSULTING ROLE. DR. CARRICK IS PASSIONATE ABOUT TRAFFIC AND RESPONDER SAFETY, AND HE HAS A NATIONAL REPUTATION AS AN ADVOCATE FOR TRAFFIC INCIDENT MANAGEMENT. HE IS CHAIR OF THE TRANSPORTATION RESEARCH BOARD TRAFFIC LAW ENFORCEMENT COMMITTEE, AND HE HAS SERVED ON NUMEROUS PROJECTS, PANELS, AND BOARDS BOTH IN FLORIDA AND NATIONALLY.
