This course is designed to provide the public educator with the knowledge and skills needed to successfully perform as a fire and life safety educator as addressed in NFPA 1035. For those who practice the multidiscipline profession of fire and life safety educator (including uniformed fire service personnel and other professionals), topics include fire behavior, community assessment, and injury prevention. The student will also develop presentation skills and learn how to formulate public education programs.

This course meets the national certification criteria for Fire and Life Safety Education, Level I.

This course is intended to help prepare the attendee to obtain the Florida Fire and Life Safety Educator Certificate of Competency.  For that complete list of requirements click here:

Melanie Brocato has been a dedicated professional educator in Broward County for the past two decades. She holds a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Florida Atlantic University and has recently fulfilled the requirements for an Education Specialist degree from the University of West Florida as part of her pursuit of a Doctorate degree in Education. Currently, she serves as a Life Safety Educator at the Broward Sheriff’s Office Department of Fire Rescue and Emergency Services, where she designs and delivers innovative public education programs tailored to diverse communities. Melanie is certified as a CPR Instructor, Child Passenger Safety instructor, Stop the Bleed Instructor, Certified Youth Firesetter Prevention Program Manager, and Fire Service Instructor I. Her areas of expertise include CPR training, bleeding control techniques, teen driver safety, child passenger safety, and various fire safety education programs. Throughout her career, Melanie has been honored with numerous awards and accolades in recognition of her unwavering commitment to service.

Cost: Free for members of the FFMIA $125 for non FFMIA members
