NFPA 101A - Guide to Alternative Approaches to Life Safety - 4 hrs

The 20-years process on upgrading fire safety in existing high-rise condominiums continues but is nearing an end.  This class focuses on the intent of Florida Laws that push for alternative solutions for fire safety.  Discussion on the provisions of the NFPA 101A Fire Safety Evaluation System will be in detail to ensure best practices in fire official management of the process.  And breakout groups will be given examples for evaluation intended to help understand the FSES process.

This class will:

  • Increase the awareness of AHJ to the fire and building codes and Florida Laws as they relate to Sprinkler Systems in High Rises and alternative means of compliance. 
  • Provide knowledge to the student on the NFPA 101A Fire Safety Evaluation System
  • Give the student practice in utilizing the NFPA 101A Fire Safety Evaluation System
Four contact hours approved for Fire and Life Safety Educator, Fire Code Administrator, Fire Investigator I and II, Fire Safety Inspector I and II, and Instructor I, II, III with these courses.

Instructors:
Buddy Dewar

Buddy Dewar is the former Director of Florida’s State Fire Marshal’s Office and is an internationally known fire safety expert.  His fire service career includes US Army arson investigations, fire suppression chief, and former Superintendent of the Florida State Fire College.  Buddy received a BA degree in Economics and a MBA, and was inducted into Sigma Beta Delta, an international honor society in business, management, and administration in recognition of his academic achievements.
